The gutter is a deadly knife created by the engineer inmate in Fox River. The blade has been carved with grooves designed to hook onto the intestines when stabbed into the victims stomach and pull them out.
Extremely painful it will be, the victim won't die suddenly because the wounds aren't fatal until it gets infected.

Season 1[]
When T-Bag thought Michael was responsible for the death of May Tag, he went to the engineer for a weapon to avenge May Tag. The Engineer gave him his 'gutter', a modified knife capable of dangerous results.

Abruzzi allied with T-Bag to take care of Michael, Gus threw Michael into a storage room when tea time was over, T-Bag, Abruzzi and his henchmen surrounded him. T-Bag draws out the gutter and says he was going to kill him but couldn't bring himself up to it because 'Michael looked so pretty when he was scared' so he will get the love out of the way before moving onto the hate, probably through a sexual act.
Abruzzi struck him in the face and his henchmen subdued him, trying to reconcile and get on better terms with Michael, he assured him T-Bag won't be a problem from now on.

- The gutter was last seen in the storage room. It's unknown if T-Bag took it, if Abruzzi or one of his henchmen took it, if another inmate swiped it, if a guard confiscated it or if it's still there.
